I am a native Texan and a BOI (Born on the Island, Galveston that is!) and graduated from nearby Spring High School, when the blimp was still around and the area where St. Cuthbert sits was dairy farms and hay fields. I left Texas to pursue an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers) and a Master of Science in Mathematics Education from Florida State University. I married an Army Special Forces officer and for 16 years we traveled the world with our two daughters, Colleen and Caitlin. |

| Austin was a wonderful place to raise two daughters as a single parent. They were able to pursue their artistic and scholarly gifts, continue religious training at St. John’s Episcopal Church and develop strong relationships with their grandparents and other relatives. Colleen is the Emergency Management Coordinator for the city of South Lake, TX and working on her PhD in Emergency Management and Disaster Planning at the University of North Texas in Denton and Caitlin is a junior at TCU in Ft. Worth majoring in kinesiology. In our 14 moves with the military, I had worked in many different fields; petroleum engineer at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, teacher, comptroller, as well as many volunteer positions within in the church and outside of it. When I came to Austin, I began working as a paralegal in an estate planning attorney’s office mostly dealing with probate and hospice issues. This was also a time that I began to discern a call to the ordained ministry and subsequently graduated from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest (ETSS) in Austin, TX, with a Masters in Divinity and was ordained in the Diocese of Texas.Having grown up in both Jewish and Christian environments (my father’s family is Jewish), I enjoy sharing my heritage with others and discovering how our unique and varied cultures and faiths broaden our understandings of God’s universal and saving work in creation and our world. I feel blessed at the opportunity to live and work in a community of faith that is committed in energy and love to care for the world around us. I look forward to future endeavors for Christ that will be filled with excitement and the proclamation of God’s love and mercy.Shalom, Janet | ||||||||||||||||||||||
